In the afternoon head back to Habarana and travel to Minneriya. Make your way to Minneriya National Park to see the herds of elephants that roam the valleys.
Stop by the Dambulla Cave Temples on your way to Kandy. There you’ll find numerous murals of Lord Buddha as well as Buddha statues in every nook and cranny. Make a stop at Matale Spice Gardens. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy City on the sixth day. This important location in Kandy is near Kandy Lake and the city centre. Travel to Horton Plains, a breathtaking reserve teeming with amazing wildlife plants and animals in the morning. Small rabbits can be seen hopping around or elk grazing on the fields. Go to Nuwara Eliya in the afternoon to see the sights.
Travel to Yala as the sun rises on this tenth day. The well-known Yala National Park which is renowned for its large leopard population is located in this southern city. See a range of wildlife on a jeep safari through the park but primarily the leopards as they hunt and relax.
Explore Galles City’s magnificent Dutch Fort which is thought to be Asia’s best-preserved sea fortress early in the morning. This is where the island’s oldest breadfruit tree is located. The Madu River Boat ride offers a close-up view of the wetland ecosystem. You can contribute to the effort to save the dying turtle population that visits Sri Lankan beaches to lay their eggs by going to the turtle hatchery.
